BETHLEHEM, PA, March 3, 2011 -- A pair of former Academic All-America® basketball selections, Peter Metzelaars, ’82 of Wabash College and Dr. Carol Lally Shields, ’79 of the University of Notre Dame, join former Rutgers University track & field star Dr. Randal Pinkett, ’94, women’s volleyball standout Dr. Julie Bremner Romias, ’94 of UCLA and NCAA Champion diver Dr. Megan Neyer, ’86 of the University of Florida as this year’s inductees into the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America® Hall of Fame.

The five newcomers join 112 members of the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Hall of Fame®, which was created in 1988. They will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at CoSIDA’s annual workshop in Marco Island, Florida on June 28.

“The CoSIDA Academic All-America® Hall of Fame truly represents the 'Best of the Best' and the Class of 2011 truly lives up to this moniker," said Larry Dougherty, Temple University Associate Athletic Director and 2010-11 CoSIDA President. "These five individuals performed at the highest level, both in their sports as well as in the classroom, as student-athletes at their respective institutions. They have gone on to continue to excel in their chosen fields and within their communities.  It is with great pride that CoSIDA honors them as the newest members of the Academic All-America® Hall of Fame."

Dr. Randal Pinkett, Rutgers University, ’94: An Academic All-America® in 1993, Dr. Randal Pinkett was a standout performer on track at Rutgers and also earned a Walter Byers Graduate Scholarship.

After graduating from Rutgers, Dr. Pinkett was the first African American to receive a Rhodes Scholarship at Rutgers. He went on to earn a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Oxford in 1996, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, a Master of Business Administration from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1998 and a Doctor of Philosophy in Media Arts and Sciences from MIT in 2001.  He was awarded Entrepreneur of the Year Award by the National Society of Black Engineers and the National Urban League’s Business Excellence Award.

He has been active in community service including serving as a spokesman for Autism Speaks, New Jersey Reads and Junior Achievement of New York. Dr. Pinkett also serves as a member of the board of directors for New Jersey Public Policy Research Institute, the non-profit Technology Enterprise Network and the National Visionary Leadership Project.

Dr. Pinkett is the chairman and CEO of BCT Partners.  He is an entrepreneur and author of Black Faces in White Places: 10 Game-Changing Strategies to Achieve Success and Find Greatness, who also appeared on the fourth season of The Apprentice, winning the reality television show.

WASHINGTON, DC, March 7, 2011 – Amtrak has refreshed and relaunched its popular Acela Express® advertising campaign, “My Track to Success.”  The print and online campaign features notable African Americans and Hispanics in business, community, stage and screen including The Apprentice: Season Four winner and entrepreneur, Dr. Randal Pinkett, Telemundo affiliate President Julissa Marenco, Publisher Donna Byrd, Ballet Hispanico Director Eduardo Vilaro and Actor/Activist/Entrepreneur Lamman Rucker.
The testimonial-style campaign includes these and several other business travelers, all of whom are also loyal Acela Express customers, sharing their thoughts about the experience and benefits of traveling on Acela.

 “Being able to do business along the Northeast Corridor, but still get home to be with my family is high on my list. Acela makes Washington, D.C. feel like it’s around the corner,” said
Pinkett in his testimonial adding, “I can spend a full day doing business in Washington, D.C. and still make it home in time for dinner in New Jersey.”
Acela Express is very convenient. All it takes is just hopping on a train from Washington, D.C. to New York, Philadelphia and Boston,” said Marenco in her testimonial. “The nature of television is so fast paced and Acela provides me with the speed, comfort and accessibility I need to get work done.”
The campaign is scheduled to appear in targeted media placements starting this month through fall 2011 including Black Enterprise,, Hispanic Business, PODER, MSN Latino and Latino leaders.
“It is very heartening to hear the words of praise for Acela from many who have ridden Acela Express since it launched 10 years ago,” said Darlene Abubakar, Amtrak’s Director of National Advertising.  “Acela is fast becoming the preferred option for more and more business travelers throughout the Northeast Corridor.”
