Special Edition: Randal and BCT Partners Visit the White House

I was excited and honored to have been invited by President Barack Obama to witness the momentous signing of the Fair Pay and Safe Workplace Executive Order at the White House on July 31, 2104. I, along with my partners at BCT Partners - Lawrence Hibbert (President), Aric Perminter (Executive Vice President) and Dr. Jeffrey Robinson (Founder), and our joint venture partner, Randy Jones (Managing Partner, The Brunswick BCT Group) - attended this significant event at the express invitation of President Obama in recognition of encouraging the growth and success of small businesses, standing for fair wages and equitable treatment and opportunities for those companies and their employees. In order for BCT Partners and other small businesses to compete and grow in the federal marketplace, it is vital to ensure that labor practices by all contractors are both fair and equitable. We are proud that for nearly 13 years, our team of management and technology consultants has offered the highest level of professionalism, commitment to excellence and passion in servicing the Federal government and are humbled to have been recognized in this manner.

A video of this historic moment can be found here.

Randal Visits White House for Signing of Executive Order

Last month, I had the distinct privilege of witnessing President Obama sign the Fair Pay and Safe Workplace Executive Order, an order that could make it harder for companies that violate wage, labor and anti-discrimination laws to win federal contracts.  Under the order, Obama will require federal contractors to disclose any labor violations that their companies committed over the previous three years, with government procurement officials then being advised to steer clear of those with repeated and egregious violations.

Sharing in this momentous occasion were my partners at BCT Partners, Lawrence Hibbert (President), Aric Perminter (Executive Vice President) and Dr. Jeffrey Robinson (Founder), and our joint venture partner, Randy Jones (Managing Partner, The Brunswick BCT Group).

Understanding the Fair Pay and Safe Workplace Executive Order

The Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces Executive Order will govern new federal procurement contracts valued at more than $500,000, providing information on companies' compliance with federal labor laws. When President Barack Obama signed the order last month, he sent a clear message to federal contractors with a history of labor law violations that they will face increased pressure to play by the rules. Provisions of the order include giving workers more rights in labor disputes, providing them the necessary information each pay period to verify the accuracy of their paychecks and allowing workers to have a judge, not an arbitrator, hear sexual assault and civil rights grievances. Numerous congressional studies show that the same U.S. companies that rack up the highest fines for labor violations continue to win billions of dollars in government contracts year after year. By forcing companies to disclose recent labor law violations, Obama hopes to pressure the most egregious violators to act within the law or lose out on lucrative federal contracts. By cracking down on federal contractors who break the law, the President is helping ensure that all hardworking Americans get the fair pay and safe workplaces they deserve.
