Elevate your game

Dear Friends,

Happy July! We have reached the halfway point in 2011, which is the perfect time to reevaluate your life’s trajectory and your efforts to be a game-changer.  This year, I celebrated the BIG 4-0 and it was exciting!

We can find ourselves in a race against time to make moves, be accomplished, and look good all before we hit middle age! 30 Under 30. 40 Under 40. Just hearing about these lists could potentially have an adverse affect on us. We might read into these commendable and celebratory outlets as “must-be-on-it-or-else-I-have-done-nothing-up-until-now lists”. Society encourages us to rush, but our spirit then tells us to slow down.

Now don’t get me wrong, my name has made it to some of these lists. But hopefully that fact does not disqualify me from encouraging you to investigate more deeply your motives in being a game-changer. Is it to add your name to another list or truly make a difference? If it is to make a difference, how do you strike the perfect balance? How do you get the most important things done, without neglecting the other things that, although not as important, contribute greatly to your quality of life? How do you tend to the world and tend to yourself? Although you may not be able to answer all of these questions, examining your motivations can give you a strong indication of whether or not you are striving in the wrong direction (which almost always leads to neglect of self or loved ones).

Ask yourself:

  1. Am I a dream-adopter? Do I have a tendency to copy others’ vision and strive for others’ achievements?
  2. What is my unique calling? Do I have a vision to get me there?
  3. Am I single-minded when it comes to my goals for this year? Or do I vacillate between ambitions when things get tough?
  4. Have I found the peace that comes with operating authentically? Or do I have “square peg-round hole syndrome,” altering my ego to look more like others?

Your answers to these questions are a great starting point to having the right footing and form in your race. Notice I said your race. You do not win a race with your eyes steadlily on the stride of others. The interesting thing is, in a race the goal is to pursue and cross the finish line, not tackle the opponent. You are not competing with anyone else’s calling or accomplishments, you are pursuing your own.

Peace and Blessings,

Randal

BREAKTHROUGH

Your Own Pace

I strongly believe that hard work brings a profit. But moreover, there is a groove we can all find that gives us, albeit not the perfect balance, an equilibrium between our purpose, vision and life’s work that fuels us to live joyously. I believe these folks have achieved this and they didn’t need to do it all before hitting the age of 40.
